I saw two swallows at the golf course in Ballyconeely in Galway on afternoon of Wed April 2nd. They landed on the ground briefly and then flew away. I could not believe what I had seen so early. I am not a bird expert so I was reluctant to report my sighting. My wife suggested that they may have arrived early because of the recent southerly winds from the Sahara.

Some swallows were seen around that date. Wind from the South and South East favoured their early arrival. Swallows are continuing to arrive in the country and will do so into the month of May. Those that are here are busy nest building and nesting
