A flock of c.700 Linnets was seen at Adare. The birds were feeding on the remnants of an oil seed rape crop in the two fields just north of the new playground.

There were 280 Dunlin, 279 Knot, 160 Redshank, 130 Lapwing, 28 Shellduck, four Gadwall, ten Shoveler and 50 Teal at the Shannon Airport Lagoon this afternoon. (John N Murphy)
Further up the Shannon Estuary near Saints Island, Inishcullen Hill there were 1,200 Lapwing, 350 Golden Plover, 400 Dunlin, 180 Redshank, 200 Black-tailed Godwits and one Water Rail. (John N Murphy)

A Siberian Chiffchaff was seen at the Coonagh Nature Reserve today (Tom Tarpey). A Jack Snipe was also present.
This month’s Branch Outing was spread over two locations; six Jack Snipe were seen at Lough Gur, a Buzzard was seen on the Croom Road outside Bruff en route to the Starling murmuration south west of Croom. An estimated 250,000 birds, the largest number so far this winter, displayed in the murmuration between 16:50 and 17:25(Geoff Hunt).
