A report of a Nightjar churring at the southern end of Gooig Bog on a few evenings in mid July was received today(per Fergus Flood). Nightjars bred in small numbers in the County up to the 1960’s however there have been very few records since.

At the Bridges of Ross today there was one Cory’s Shearwater, three Great Shearwaters, 25 Sooty Shearwaters, one Balearic Shearwater, 12,000 Manx Shearwaters, six Great Skuas, 16 Storm Petrels, eight Arctic Terns, one Long-tailed Duck, one Common Scoter and five Curlew. A Garganey, 14 Gadwall, 16 Tufted Duck, 180 Coot, 23 Moorhens, six Great-crested Grebes and 43 Little Grebes were at Coonagh (TT)

A Common Sandpiper, a Whimbrel, 21 Little Egret, two Arctic Terns, around 300 Common and Sandwich Tern, 70 Curlew, 60 Oystercatcher, 50 Ringed Plover, 45 Turnstone, 15 Sanderling, 12 Dunlin and 5 Bar-tailed Godwit were at Rine Point, Ballyvaughan this morning.(Páidí Cullinan)
