Birds : In winter the lake has a small variety of wildfowl and is best for diving duck like Pochard, Tufted Duck and Goldeneye.  There are also Cormorant, Great Crested and Little Grebes, Teal, Wigeon, Coot, Whooper and Mute Swans.
In summer the lakeshore echoes to the sounds of singing Sedge and Willow Warblers, Chiffchaffs, Blackcap, Redpoll, Cuckoo, Whitethroat, Spotted Flycatcher, Reed Bunting and the odd Grasshopper Warbler.  The reedy fringes hold Water Rail and Moorhens.
Grey Heron, Lapwing Snipe, Woodcock Kestrel, Sparrowhawk and Long-eared Owl all breed along the lakeshore.
Scarce visitors include Little Egret, Greylag Geese, Hen Harrier, Ring-necked Duck, Common Sandpiper, Little Gull, Common and Arctic Terns, Garden Warbler and Wheatear.
Sedge Warblers ringed at this site have been controlled in central France and Senegal, in West Africa.
