Saturday 11th December 2021-Ballyallia Lake
Outing to Ballyallia Lake near Ennis. This small lake hosts a variety of wintering wildfowl, ducks and some waders. Jay and birds of prey are often spotted in the surrounding woodland and countryside.Farmland birds are easily observed. Meet at the parking area opposite Lake View Stores on the Ruan road at 11a.m.

A visit to Lurga Point, Seafield, Quilty and nearby Lough Donnell to see waders and seabirds. This is an excellent site to view birds at close range. Purple Sandpiper are usually present at this time of year. Meet at the Pier, Seafield at 11a.m.

Outing to the Mid Clare Lakes. We will visit Lake Atedaun, Lake Inchiquin and perhaps other nearby lakes. Wintering wildfowl should be plentiful along with some waders. Meet at the Grotto, Corofin at 11a.m.

A visit to the Ballyvaughan area to look for waders, Brent Geese, seaduck etc. We will walk along the Rine to look for divers etc. Meet at the Pier opposite Monk’s Pub at 11a.m. A car rally is being held in the area on Saturday but Ballyvaughan village will be quiet for most of the day. The R480 Ennis Road will be closed to traffic for most of the day. The rally stages will be at Corkscrew Hill.

Outing to Fanore and the Caher Valley. A nice ramble where we hope to see spring migrants, Dippers, Grey Wagtail and birds of the north Clare countryside. Meet at Fanore Beach car-park at 11a,m,

National Dawn Chorus Outing to the Mullaghmore area and the Burren National Park where we hope to hear and see Cuckoo, Blackcap, Whitethroat, Willow Warbler and if very lucky Yellowhammer. More common birds will also be heard and seen. Meet at the Grotto, Corofin at 5a.m.

Outing to Loop Head to see nesting seabirds on the cliffs. Great location to see Common Guillemot, Razorbill, Kittiwake, Fulmar, Herring Gull, Shag, Chough etc. A memorable occasion on a fine day. Bring a flask and sandwiches if you wish. Keating’s Bar may be open for food. This will be a joint outing with the Limerick Branch of BWI. Meet at Loop Head Lighthouse car-park at 11a.m.

A trip to Kilbaha and Loop Head to search for scarce and rare migrants in the gardens and on the Headland. Usually a memorable autumn outing. Meet at Keating’s in Kilbaha at 9a.m. If you arrive late you will catch up with us up along the road. Keating’s Bar should be open for food later in the morning.

Joint outing with the Limerick Branch of BWI to Curraghchase Forest Park where we will look for Hawfinch, Brambling, Jay, Buzzard and the more common birds of this wonderful site. We usually drop across a few Red Squirrel. Meet at the car-park inside the barrier at Curraghchase at 9.30a.m.

A visit to Seafield, Quilty will be our first outing for 2023. This is an excellent site to view waders up close as they are used of people as they forage along the shore. Divers, Gulls, Barnacle Geese and seabirds will be seen offshore. Meet at the Pier, Seafield at 11a.m. Bring binoculars if you have them. Wear warm clothing. Food and a hot drink are advisable.
