A Turtle Dove was at Ballinlyna, Kilfinane (Tony Mee). This is the sixth County record for this scarce and declining summer migrant.

A pair of Great Spotted Woodpeckers were at Curraghchase (Eabha Hughes).


Saturday 30th May 2026

A Red Kite was seen flying westwards at Kilkinlea, Abbeyfeale (Philip Gleeson). This is the 11th County record, following on quickly from the tenth two days earlier.

Four Reed Warblers were in song in one section of the Coonagh Wetlands. A drake Gadwall was also present. (Tom Tarpey)

A Bittern was at the Coonagh Wetlands (TT). This is the fifth County record and the first for the site. The most recent previous records were of a bird shot at the Ballinacurra Creek on 2/1/1950 and another nearby in the same week.

A Red Kite was also seen flying eastwards at Coonagh (TT). The is also a first record for the site and the tenth County record, three of which have occurred in the past nine months.

A 3cy White-tailed Eagle (tag no. 43) flew upriver past Coonagh (TT). This bird, released at Tarbert Bay in 2024, has been resident in the general area for the past year or so.

A Spotted Flycatcher was near Athlacca (Gerry Murphy).

A 3cy White-tailed Eagle (Tag no. 43) was at Bunlicky (Gerry Murphy).

A female Great Spotted Woodpecker has continued to visit a private garden near Cappamore (Cathie Chappell).

At least two Great Spotted Woodpeckers, an adult and a recently fledged juvenile, were at the Shannon Fields, Corbally (Pearse Ryan).

A Whimbrel and ten Black-tailed Godwits were at Ringmoylan Pier (John Rutherford).

Three Swifts were at King’s Island and two were at the Ballysimon Road (Tom Tarpey).

A Canada Goose was at Morgans, Askeaton (Tom Keane).

Three Whimbrel, two Curlew and 11 Knot were at Ringmoylan Pier (Tom Tarpey)


Saturday 9th May 2026

A Great White Egret was at Ringmoylan Pier (Sean Doyle).

A Buzzard, a Kestrel and a Swift were seen on the annual Limerick Branch outing to the Doon area. A Grasshopper Warbler, two Whitethroats and numerous Willow Warblers and Blackcaps were also in song in the area (Mara van Aelst, Gyr Penn, Tom Tarpey et al.).

A Peregrine was at Dooradoyle (Donogh Sweeney).
