Large numbers of Redwings and many other countryside birds such as Fieldfares, Meadow Pipits and Reed Buntings have moved into suburban gardens in the past few days in search of better feeding opportunities following the recent snowfall.

A 3CY Iceland Gull at Liscannor Harbour John N Murphy

An adult Mediterranean Gull and 45 Golden Plover were at Clahane.(Jeff Copner)
Two Glaucous Gull were at Liscannor.(JC)
There were two littoralis Rock Pipits at Clahane and 40 Brent Geese. (John N Murphy)
One 3CY Iceland Gull was at Liscannor along with 25 Common scoter. (JNM)
Two Brambling were at Woodlawn, Ennis.(Dixie Collins)
A Woodcock was at Dromore Wood.(Cliff Baxter)
One Dipper was upstream of the Falls at Ennistymon. (JNM)
There were three male Blackcaps at Applewood, Ballycar. (JNM)

A Brambling was in a garden at the Fairgreen, Limerick City (Clare/Limerick Bird News).
The 1st winter Kumlien’s Gull was at Harvey’s Quay. A Meadow Pipit was an unusual visitor there on the shoreline as well(TT).
A 1st winter Iceland Gull and two Redshank were at O’Callaghan’s Strand (TT).
A Blackcap, two Redwing and a Snipe were in a garden at Newcastle West(Geoff Hunt).
Eight Golden Plover(flyover), a Snipe, eight Redwing and a Blackcap were at Monaleen(TT).
Two Lapwings were in a garden at Ballysimon (per Irishbirding).

It is important to feed the birds during this weather and this male Blackcap has been taking advantage of the apples that I have left out for the thrushes John N Murphy

One male Blackcap was at Applewood, Ballycar.(John N. Murphy)
Two male Blackcap were feeding on apples at Oak Park, Ennis.(Nuala and Tom Lynch)
A ring-tailed Hen Harrier was at Addroon Bridge.(Cliff Baxter)
A Buzzard was at Dromore Woods.(CB)
Lots of reports of Redwing feeding on apples and fruit in gardens over the past few days.

Drake Greater Scaup at Ballycar Lough John N Murphy

One Common Sandpiper was at Clarecastle Quay. (John N Murphy)
There were 162 Whooper Swans at Ballygireen. (JNM)
One drake Greater Scaup was within a flock of 30 Tufted Ducks at Ballycar Lough with one male Blackcap at Applewood beside the lake. (JNM)
