Thursday 15th August 2024

A seawatch at the Bridges of Ross between 08.45-19.30 produced seven Wilson’s Petrel, 294 Cory’s Shearwater, three Great Shearwater, four Sabine’s Gull, two Grey Phalarope, 60 Sooty Shearwater, four Arctic Skua, one Pomarine Skua, one Great Skua, 46 Storm Pertrel, 165 Whimbrel, two Common Scoter and 63 Arctic Tern.(Dan Pointon, Éanna O’ Flynn, Killian Mullarney, Finbar MacGabhann, Jeff Copner et al)

A Ringed-tailed Hen Harrier was at Lisroe.(JC)

Wednesday 14th August 2024

A seawatch at the Bridges of Ross between 10.45-16.45 produced 12 Cory’s Shearwater, 38 Sooty Shearwater, five Arctic Skua, over 20 Storm Petrel, 35 Arctic Tern and 16 Whimbrel.(Dick Coombes, G. Lyons & D. Higgins)

Tuesday 13th August 2024

At 08.24 a Fea’s Petrel flew south past the Bridges of Ross.(Daniel Mantle, Ger Murray)

A Scopoli’s Shearwater was close in off the Bridges of Ross at 11.45.(John N. Murphy et al)

A ringed Oystercatcher was at Seafield. (left leg, Black over Red, right leg, White JE ) This bird was ringed as an adult on the nest in SW Iceland and has wintered in Seafield area in recent years. (Jeff Copner, Tom Tarpey)

Along with the above, the  seawatch from the Bridges of Ross between 05.50-16.50 produced 18  Wilson’s Storm Petrel, 40  European Storm Petrel, 11 Grey Phalarope, one Balearic Shearwater, 40 Great Shearwater, 60 Sooty Shearwater, one Long-tailed Skua, two Great Skua, one Pomarine Skua, seven Arctic Skua, 30 Sabine’s Gull, 2200 Cory’s Shearwater, 21000 Manx Shearwater  48 Whimbrel, 42 Arctic Tern and 20 Common Scoter.(Dan Mantle, Ger Murray, John Cusack, JNM, Éanna O Flynn, Ray Glynn et al)


Monday 12th August 2024

At Ross Ringing Station between 07.30-08.30 one Wilson’s Petrel, (07.52) Eight Cory’s Shearwater,  12 Great Shearwater,  50 Sooty Shearwater,  12000 Manx Shearwater,  one adult Sabine’s Gull,  85 Arctic Tern and four Storm Petrel were reported.(John N. Murphy)

Between 08.30-13.30 236 Cory’s Shearwater, 34 Great Shearwater, 45 Sooty Shearwater, one Pomarine Skua, one Grey Phalarope, 42 Arctic Tern, 24 Common Scoter, 17 Whimbrel, seven Sandwich Tern and one Storm Petrel were recorded.(JNM, Eanna O’ Flynn)

At Black Head between 07.45-11.00 a seawatch produced one Balearic Shearwater, 12 Cory’s Shearwater, three Great Shearwater, two Sooty Shearwater, two Great Skua, four Arctic Skua and one Storm Petrel.(Paul Troake)

Dead Barn Owls were found on the N21 at Reens and Ballyfrawley (Andrew Holmes).


Saturday 10th August 2024

A seawatch at the Bridges of Ross between 08.15-12.15 produced 18 Cory’s Shearwater, ten Sooty Shearwater, one Great Shearwater, one Arctic Skua, one Pomarine Skua, six Storm Petrel, two Arctic Tern, 27 Sandwich Tern, one Puffin and 4392 Manx Shearwater.(Chris Cullen et al)

Off Ross Ringing Station there were four Great Shearwater, eight Cory’s Shearwater and two Arctic Tern.(John N. Murphy)

Friday 9th August 2024

At the Bridges of Ross between 05.50-12.30 there were eight Wilson’s Storm Petrel, 735 Cory’s Shearwater, 14 Great Shearwater, 14 Sooty Shearwater, around 20,000 Manx Shearwater, 30 Storm Petrel, three adult Long-tailed Skua, 12 Arctic Skua, five Pomarine Skua, two adult Sabine’s Gull, one Grey Phalarope, 16 Puffin and 70 Whimbrel. At the Bridges of Ross this morning there were two Pomarine Skua, two Arctic  and 50 Storm Petrel.(Jeff Copner)

A seawatch between 18.25-20.35 produced one Wilson’s Storm Petrel, 38 Cory’s Shearwater, three Great Shearwater, 95 Sooty Shearwater, 9675 Manx Shearwater, 35 Storm Petrel, three Arctic Skua, one immature Pomarine Skua, 13 Arctic Tern and 32 Whimbrel.(Alan Lauder)

One Scopolli’s Shearwater was picked up flying alongside a Cory’s close to the shore off Ross Ringing Station (09.30)(John N Murphy)

At Ross Ringing Station between 06.00-09.00 there were three Wilson’s Petrel, 50 Storm Petrel, over 200 Cory’s Shearwater, ten Sooty Shearwater, 6000 Manx Shearwater per hour, one Long-tailed Skua, seven Pomarine Skua, five Arctic Skua, three Common Scoter and 16 Arctic Tern.(John N. Between 9.30 and 12.00 at Ross Ringing station there were 12 Wilson’s, Storm Petrels, over 300 Cory’s Shearwaters, two Great Shearwaters, 15 Sooty Shearwaters, two Sabine’s Gulls, five Pomarine Skuas, three Arctic Skuaa and ten Arctic Terns. (John N Murphy & Johannes Laber)
