The Semi-palmated Sandpiper was still at Seafield, along with 120 Purple Sandpiper, 350 Sanderling, 400 Dunlin, 200 Turnstone, 200 Ringed Plover and a Red-throated Diver. (John N Murphy)

The Clare BWI outing was held today with over 50 people attending. A ringtail Hen Harrier was at Lake Atedaun. A Great Northern Diver and a male Goldeneye were at Lough Muckanagh. A White-tailed Eagle, 18 Whooper Swan, 10 Gadwall and around 50 Greylag Geese were at Tubber.(Nuala & Tom Lynch, James Organ, Geoff Pearson, Ray Glynn, Sean Whelan, Charlie Lyons, Gearóid Jackson et al)

Another White-tailed Eagle and two Pochard were at Termon Lough.(JO)

An adult Iceland Gull was at St. Flannan’s.(Chris Cullen)

There were two Buzzard, a Barnacle Goose and two Kingfisher at Ballyallia.(Maura Crowe)

Two male Bramblings were in a garden at Monaleen (TT).

A Great Spotted Woodpecker was drumming at Lisnagry. Four Buzzards and a Pergrine were also in the area (Gearoid Ryan).

There were 14 Pintail Duck and two Whooper Swan at Islandavanna.(Chris Cullen)

A Common Sandpiper was at Clarecastle Quay.(CC)

A Chiffchaff was in song at the Charleville Lagoons (Tom Tarpey).


Sunday 22nd February 2026

The Semi-palmated Sandpiper and 170 Purple Sandpiper were at Seafield.(Sean Holland)

A pair of Pochard and 100 Tufted Duck were at Termon Lough.(James Organ)

There were 65 Greylag Geese and 27 Whooper Swan at Tubber.(JO)

Twenty Whooper Swan were at O’Toole’s Lough and another 26 were at the Fergus Flood Plain, Corofin.(JO)

A 2nd winter Ring-billed Gull was at Foynes (Paul Connaughton per Niall Keogh)

Five Pochard, a pair and three drakes, were at Westfields along with 17 Tufted Duck and six Gadwall (Tom Tarpey).


Wednesday 18th February 2026

A Great Spotted Woodpecker visited a garden near Glenroe (Adrian Insley).

A male Blackcap was at the Mill Road, Corbally. Polish Black-headed Gull, Yellow TLW5, continues to spend at least its sixth winter since 2019 on the Shannon in the same area (Tom Tarpey).


Tuesday 17th February 2026

A 2cy male Scaup, nine Tufted Duck, four Gadwall, 25 Coot, two Jack Snipe and an Otter were at the Coonagh Nature Reserve (Tom Tarpey).

The continuing Glossy Ibis pair were at Ballykeeffe (TT).

The continuing adult Iceland Gull was at Honan’s Quay (TT).
