Five Swifts were seen in Ballingarry this evening (Andrew Holmes). The first Swifts of the summer have been at least a week later than normal this year. The first report for Limerick this year was last Friday, May 7th and there have only been a very small number of birds seen in the past week. The cool weather has been a factor, however there are also concerns about a population decline in the species in this part of the world.
