Off Ross Ringing Station this evening there was one Great Skua, ten Sooty Shearwater, 12 Common Scoter and a Wheatear.(John N. Murphy)

Wednesday 11th September 2024

At the Bridges of Ross between 07.00-10.00 there were 45 Sooty Shearwater, 19 Arctic Tern, 56 Sandwich Tern, five Arctic Skua, two Storm Petrel, one Great Skua, one Common Scoter, one Sabine’s Gull, one Puffin plus a small number Cory’s Shearwater and Great Shearwater.(Paul Troake)

At the Fodry from 11.25 to 17.35 there were two Pomarine Skua, two Sabine’s Gull, 17 Arctic Tern, 24 Arctic Skua, two Grey Phalarope, 13 Great Skua, one Whimbrel, three Common Scoter, 600 Great Shearwater, 55 Cory’s Shearwater, 65 Sooty Shearwater and one juvenile Little Gull.(PT)

A Barn Owl was calling at Clashganniff, Shanagolden (Clodagh Glasgow).
A Chiffchaff was in song at Fedamore (TT).

There were over 9850 Great Shearwater off the Bridges of Ross during a two and half hour period this morning. (Hendrix et al)

There were hundreds of Cory’s Shearwater and Sooty Shearwater, as well as one Balearic Shearwater, two Great Skua and 20 Leach’s Petrel off Ross Ringing Station but weather conditions made accurate counting difficult earlier today.(John N. Murphy)

An  seawatch at the Bridges of Ross produced 135 Cory’s Shearwater, 170 Sooty Shearwater, 6 Leach’s Petrel, 12 Storm Petrel, one juvenile Long-tailed Skua, three Pomarine Skua, 24 Great Skua,20 Arctic Skua, nine Sabine’s Gull, 85 Arctic Tern,two Grey Phalarope, two Red-throated Diver, 23 Sandwich Tern, eight Common Scoter,65 Brent Goose and 21 Knot.(John N. Monday 9th September 2024

A seawatch at the Bridges of Ross between 12.30-17.00 produced three Wilson’s Petrel, 12 Leach’s Petrel, one Scopoli’s Shearwater(14.50), 168 Cory’s Shearwater, 25 Great Shearwater, 70 Sooty Shearwater, four juvenile Sabine’s Gull, two Pomarine Skua, five Great Skua, 36 Arctic Tern, five Sandwich Tern, 12 Common Scoter, five Puffin and three Basking Shark.
