The Caspian Gull was on the slipway at O’Callaghan’s Strand this afternoon. It then flew down river at 16:15 approx. An adult Ring-billed Gull and Common Sandpiper were also present (Geoff Hunt & Tom Tarpey).
A Common Sandpiper was also seen at Clancy’s Strand (TT).

Yellowhammer male near Tubber John N Murphy
Five Waxwing and a male Blackcap were at Carraig Dubh, Ennis. More or less the same area as they were seen yesterday.(Nuala and Tom Lynch)
There were five Yellowhammers near Tubber (John N Murphy).
At Aughinish Island there were 11 Long-tailed Duck and one female Peregrine (JNM).
There were 14 Whooper Swans and three Little Egrets at Drumcliff, Ballyallia (JNM).

Flocks of 58 and 41 Whooper Swans were counted on the Camogue and Morning Star river basins during the national census (Gerry Murphy). 17.7% of the birds in the four flocks counted over the two days of the survey were juveniles and the average brood size was 2.1.

There were five Waxwings feeding on berry trees in a housing estate behind Shanahan Paints near St.Micheals Villas, Ennis (John N Murphy et al).

There were three first-winter Iceland Gulls and Aughinish along with six Long-tailed Ducks, ten Twite and one Whimbrel (Paul Troake).
A flock of 14 Whooper Swans were just outside Kilkee with 18 Greenland White-fronted Geese at Tullagher and 46 Barnacle Geese on Mutton Island (Elaine Keegan).
The first-winter Glaucous Gull was seen flying south past Cregg Beach, Liscannor today (Jeff L Copner).
There were 12 Brent Geese at Clahane along with 40 Dunlin and 50 Curlew (JLC).

Caspian Gull at O’Callaghan’s Strand John N Murphy
The 2nd winter Caspian Gull was seen at O’Callaghan’s Strand again today. An adult Ring-billed Gull was also present. (John N Murphy & Dermot Breen).
An adult Yellow-legged Gull was at Thomond Weir (Dermot Breen). This is the sixth record of the species in Limerick and the first full adult bird.
A Common Sandpiper was at Clancy’s Strand (TT).

Second winter Caspian Gull ©Geoff Hunt
A second winter Caspian Gull was found at the O’Callaghan’s Strand slipway today(Geoff Hunt). This rare Eastern European gull is a first for Limerick.
At least 25 Waxwings were seen near the Centra store in Raheen (Geoff Hunt). The birds were making occasional trips to feed on the rose hips in the old hedgerow on the northern boundary of the shopping area.
