A drake Blue-winged Teal was found at Coonagh this evening (Tom Tarpey). This is the second record of the species at the site and the sixth record for the County. A juvenile/female type Garganey was also seen at the site.

Adult Semi-palmated Sandpiper at Aughinish © Paul Troake
One Semi-palmated Sandpiper was at Aughinish Martelloe Tower (Paul Troake). At the Bridges of Ross today there were two Balearic Shearwaters, 214 Sooty Shearwaters, 16 storm Petrels, four Common Scoter, 12 Bonxies, eight Pomarine Skuas, 18 Arctic Skuas, six Long-tailed Skuas, three Sandwich Terns and 55 Arctic Terns.

One Borolo’s Shearwater was at the Fodry, Loop Head this evening (Owen Foley, Rob Vaughan & Shane Farrell). Off the Bridges of Ross there was three Balearic Shearwater, 50 Sooty Shearwaters, 1,900 Manx Shearwater in 3 hrs (pm), three Leach’s Petrel, two Storm Petrel: 26 Great Skuas (Bonxie),five pale phase Pomarine Skua, 25 Arctic Skuas, one juvenile Long-tailed Skua (Owen Foley) two adult and one juvenile Sabine’s Gulls, one Sandwich Tern, one Grey Phalarope and 29 Whimbrel.

Two Mediterranean Gulls and six Little Egrets were at Tarbert Bay today.
Leave a commentA Kingfisher, two Spotted Redshank, 78 Redshank, 22 Greenshank, ten Snipe and 15 Curlew were at Robertstown.
A Common Sandpiper was at Poulaweala Creek.
A Spotted Redshank, 110 Redshank and four Little Egrets were at the old pier in Askeaton.

At least 40 bird species were recorded at Coonagh this morning during the Limerick City Bio-blitz Day. The list included five Gadwall, seven Shoveler, three Wigeon, a Teal, 30 Tufted Duck, eight Mallard, two probable Garganey, a Common Sandpiper, two Redshank, three Snipe, 28 Black-tailed Godwits, 35 Lapwing, a Raven, a Stock Dove and two Water Rails.
