A first-winter drake Lesser Scaup with Tufted Ducks at Lough Gash © John N Murphy
A first-winter drake Lesser Scaup was at Lough Gash, Newmarket-on-Fergus this afternoon (John N Murphy et al). If accepted this is a first county record of this rare North American vagrant.
A Waxwing was seen briefly at Rinneville, Carrigaholt (Paul Troake).
The Forster’s Tern was off Doorus Pier near the Clare/Galway border (Gerry Butler & Colin Helliwell).
Also at Lough Gash were one drake Greater Scaup, 140 Tufted Ducks, 12 Gadwall, 70 Coot and 65 Little Grebe.

A Great Spotted Woodpecker was seen today at a garden feeder in Murroe(Ann Taylor). This is the third record of the species for the County.
Coonagh had a large wildfowl count today with 127 Pochard, 114 Tufted Duck, 24 Wigeon, 19 Mallard, ten Gadwall, five Shoveler, four Scaup, two Teal, 291 Coot, 17 Little Grebes, ten Mute Swans and five Snipe.

One Spotted Sandpiper was at Moyasta (Gerry Butler, Colin Helliwell & John N Murphy).
The juvenile American Golden Plover was at the Horse Field near the Bridges of Ross this morning (John N Murphy).
Movement at the Bridges of Ross were, one juvenile Sabines Gull, one Great Northern Diver, two Common Scoter and small passage of auks, Gannets and Kittiwakes.
One Tree Sparrow was in Gibson’s garden, with lite or no sign ad any land migrants.
Two Great Northern Divers were in Kilbaha Harbour with another two in Ross Bay.
There were four Jay in Lees Road Wood this afternoon.

A Buzzard was seen being mobbed by crows near Patrickswell today.

The immature Red-breasted Flycatcher was still in Gibson’s Garden Loop Head (Brian Finnegan).
Also at Loop Head was one male Snow Bunting.

A Pectoral Sandpiper flew in off the sea at the Bridges of Ross this morning (Geoff Pearson).
Also at Loop Head today were one male Blackcap and a Chiffchaff.
One Short-eared Owl was at Shragh Bog.
