A Buzzard was seen flying past the Coonagh Nature Reserve this afternoon. The bird was being mobbed by crows as it crossed the Shannon from the Mungret side and it disappeared from view as it moved down river. Three Swift, 70 Lapwing, three Dunlin and 30 Teal were also seen at the site.

A Swinhoe’s Petrel was seen off the Bridges of Ross late this afternoon (Stephen Hack, Jim F Dowdall et al). This is the third record of such a rare seabird for this site. One juvenile Ruff was at Doonbeg.

One Black-winged Stilt was at the mouth of the Skivileen River Doonbeg this afternoon (Gavin Fennessy). This is only the second county record of this species. The first was at Ennistymon in 1987. At the Bridges of Ross there were two Balearic Shearwaters, six Sooty Shearwaters, six Arctic Skuas, one Sandwich Tern and 29 Arctic Terns.

At the Bridges of Ross today all was quiet with one Balearic Shearwater, four Sooty Shearwaters, 1100 Manx Shearwaters, three Arctic Skuas, three Bonxies and three Arctic Terns.

There was one blue Fulmar, one adult Sabine’s Gull, one juvenile Long-tailed Skua, 11 Bonxies, one Arctic Skua, six Storm Petrels, one Grey Phalarope and 21 Sooty Shearwaters, four Sandwich Terns, 14 Arctic Terns and seven Common Scoter at the Bridges of Ross.

A Blue Fulmar off the Loop Head pelagic earlier this morning John N Murphy
A pelagic trip 9 miles off Loop Head this morning from 6.30 to 12.30 produced: one Sooty Shearwater, 35 Storm Petrels, one Blue Fulmar, two Bonxies, one dark phased Arctic Skua and one immature Arctic Tern. One Common Sandpiper was in the small pool at Kilbaha.
